Cytodyne Xenadrine RFA-1 is back! I should say Cytogenix Xenadrine RFA-1 is reformulated, and released. I'm not exactly sure of what went on behind the scenes, but the entire Cytodyne line was taken off the market for quite sometime. Iovate (also owns and operates Muscletech), bought Cytodyne Technologies, and their entire line of products. In a press release dated April 15, 2008:
"The Iovate group of companies is very pleased to announce its recent acquisition of the Xenadrine family of brand names, and as well the Cytodyne brand names, and others, from Nutriquest Inc.
Joining the Iovate family of brands will be the following brand names: ANDRODYNE, CYTODYNE, CYTOPLEX, CYTOTRIM, INSTANT EFX, ISODYNE, METHOXYPRO, PHOSPHAPLEX, TARAXATONE, THERMODYNE, XENADRINE, XENADRINE EFX, XENADRINE RFA-1, Z-MASS, XENADRINE SLEEP PLUS, XENADRINE-NRG, XENADRINE 40+."
Then entire Cytodyne line of products was taken off the market to be reformulated and repackaged. The name of Cytodyne Technologies was also changed to Cytogenix Laboratories. Since then, they have re-introduced Xenadrine RFA-1 to the market - a completely reformulated fat burner, but in almost the exact same packaging as the original Xenadrine RFA-1 - as far as I can tell. I'm assuming that the packaging was kept essentially the same as a means to get previous Xenadrine RFA-1 users to buy the new diet pill. Along with Xenadrine RFA-1, they also released another Xenadrine Hardcore RFA-X.
Xenadrine RFA-1 Ingredient
While the name and the packaging are the same as the original Xenadrine RFA-1, the formula has been completely reformulated with different ingredients, and it does not contain ephedrine. The new Xenadrine RFA-1 formula consists of 3 main blends: Lipo-Core, Thermodyne Complex, and Cytodrine. Below is a list of Xenadrine RFA-1 Ingredients:
Garcinia Cambogia Extract -
is a key ingredient of the Lipo-Core blend in Xenadrine RFA-1. Its
the active ingredient found in Garcinia Cambogia, a small tropical
plant. This works to 2 effects: 1) by suppressing appetite, and
2) by inhibiting lipid synthesis. Various studies have shown Garcinia
Cambogia to be effective on animals.
However, I've also read 2 different research
papers which found little significance in the effectiveness of
Garcinia cambogia extract, so it still remains to be seen just how effective it really
is. As far as side effects go, Garcinia Cambogia has been in use
for decades in Asia, and I'm unaware of any of its side effects,
which is a plus.
Raspberry ketone is a natural compound that is the primary aroma compound of red raspberries. It is commonly used in perfumes, cosmetics, and as food additive to give a fruity odor. The structure of raspberry ketone is similar to the structures of capsaicin and synephrine, compounds known to exert anti-obese actions and alter the lipid metabolism. There have been several studies involving mice that have shown raspberry ketone to prevent obesity. [1] Below is one such study:

Raspberry ketone (RK) is known to exert anti-obese actions and alter the lipid metabolism. This study was performed to clarify whether RK helps prevent obesity and activate lipid metabolism in rodents. There are two components to this study: 1) Mice were fed a high fat diet including 0.5, 1 or 2% of RK for 10 weeks; 2) mice were fed a high fat diet for 6 weeks and subsequently fed the same high-fat diet containing 1% RK for the next 5 weeks.
The study found that RK prevented the high-fat-diet-induced elevations in body weight and the weights of the liver and visceral adipose tissues (epididymal, retroperitoneal, and mesenteric). RK also decreased these weights and hepatic triacylglycerol content after they had been increased by a high-fat diet. RK significantly increased norepinephrine-induced lipolysis associated with the translocation of hormone-sensitive lipase from the cytosol to lipid droplets in rat epididymal fat cells. They concluded that raspberry ketone prevents obesity and helps improve fatty liver. These effects appear to stem from the action of RK in altering the lipid metabolism, or more specifically, in increasing norepinephrine-induced lipolysis in white adipocytes. [1]
Ginger Root Extract (As Zingiber Officinale) - Ginger root has long been used as folk medicine in China. Aside from the many health benefits of Ginger root, it has been shown in studies to have anti-obesity effects, where zingiber officinale might inhibit the intestinal absorption of dietary fat by inhibiting its hydrolysis. In this study of Zingibr Officinale, they investigated the antiobesity effects of the aqueous extract of Zingiber officinale Roscoe by feeding a high-fat diet to mice for 8 weeks. Body weights at 2-8 weeks and final parametrial adipose tissue weights were significantly lower in mice fed the high-fat diet containing 3% aqueous extract of Zingiber officinale Roscoe than in the controls fed the high-fat diet.
Feeding a high-fat diet containing 1% aqueous extract of Z. officinale Roscoe also significantly reduced final parametrial adipose tissue weights that were elevated in mice fed the high-fat diet alone. The results from this study suggest that the antiobesity effect of aqueous extract of Z. officinale Roscoe in mice fed a high-fat diet may be due in part to the inhibition of intestinal absorption of dietary fat by the active compounds of Z. officinale Roscoe.
The next blend, thermodyne complex, as the name "thermo" suggests, contains several ingredients that aids fat loss with increased thermogenesis containing ingredients such as wasabia Japonica (wasabi) and Capsicum Annuum (chili pepper). It also contains green tea extract and 200mg of caffeine.
Gymnema sylvestre
extract - native to the tropical regions
of India. Has been promoted as an appetite suppressant
and weight-loss agent. People in India with diabetes
has chewed the leaves to help control blood sugar
for generations. No more needs to be said about this.
Take a look at the following study done:
If you don't like to
read these types of studies, here's the conclusion
quoted:
CONCLUSION: The
present study shows that optimal doses of HCA-SX
and, to a greater degree, the combination of HCA-SX,
NBC and GSE (Gymnema sylvestre extract) can serve
as an effective and safe weight-loss formula that
can facilitate a reduction in excess body weight
and BMI, while promoting healthy blood lipid levels.
Whether the new Xenadrine RFA-1 works as well as the original is debatable. It has a good line of ingredients that have shown good results when it comes to fighting obesity; however, the question remains whether this newly formulated Xenadrine RFA-1 will be comparable to the original which was popular, effective, and based on the ECA stack.
But like so many other fat burners, ephedra has been phased out long ago, and supplement makers really haven't found that "next" active ingredient that quite compares to it. Regardless, there are many new and interesting formulations on the market showing very promising results in the battle of the bulge. VPX Meltdown has had several studies published in peer reviewed publications - something you rarely see when it comes to proving the credibility of weight loss products.
Cytogenix Xenadrine RFA-1 still needs to prove itself as an effective fat burner. While it has a seemingly good lineup of ingredients, we eagerly await for user feedbacks and reviews, and if you have used the new Xenadrine RFA-1, please do not hesitate to share your results and feedback with us here.
