Phentermine Diet Pill & Weight Loss
Phentermine Pill Information
Phentermine is a prescription diet pill that's used for weight loss, and is mainly used as an appetite suppressant. Chemically, Phentermine is similar to an amphetamine (although not identical), and is generally prescribed for individuals who are at increased health risk because of their weight.
Phentermine is the most commonly prescribed prescription appetite suppressant, partly because it costs less than other key FDA approved diet pills such as Xenical and Meridia. When combined with a sound diet plan and exercise program, Phentermine can help the user lose weight.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends short term use of Phentermine (generally interpreted as less than 12 weeks), while following a sound diet and exercise plan. One main reason given behind the short term recommended use is drug tolerance, where it is believed Phentermine loses its appetite suppressing effects after the body adjusts to the diet pill.

History of Phentermine Diet Pill & Weight Loss
In 1959, Phentermine first received approval from the FDA as an appetite suppressant for short term treatment of obesity. In early 1970's, Phentermine Hydrochloride became available. Previously sold as Fastin from King Pharmaceuticals for Smithkline Beecham, it was removed from the market in 1998. In the US, Phentermine is currently sold by Medeva Pharmaceuticals (Ionamin) and Gate Pharmaceuticals (Adipex-P). It is also available as a generic phentermine diet pill.
Few studies were performed on Phentermine, and in 1990, a study combined Phentermine with Fenfluramine was performed, which later became known as Fen-Phen (or Phen-fen). Although Fen-Phen was more effective, it was never approved by the FDA, and in 1997 after 24 reported cases of heart valve problems Fenfluramine was taken off the market. In a recent study published in 2006 by the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin, researchers performed a study comparing combinations of drugs for treatment of obesity, which involved Phentermine. The conclusion of this study is that although the combination of Phentermine and Fluoxetine (they called it Phen-Flu) was not as effective as Phen-Fen, it was also not associated with cardiac valve lesions as was with Phen-Fen. Phentermine diet pill is available by itself in most countries; however, because it is an amphetamine, it can lead to addiction. Therefore, Phentermine is classified as a controlled substance in many countries.

How Does Phentermine Work?
Phentermine works as an appetite suppressant. It works by stimulating the hypothalamus gland and affects certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite. "Phentermine diet pill is a centrally-acting stimulant and is a constitutional isomer (not to be confused with stereoisomer) of methamphetamine. It stimulates neuron bundles to release a particular group of neurotransmitters known as catecholamines; these include dopamine, epinephrine (also known as adrenalin), and norepinephrine (noradrenaline)." - Wikipedia The neurotransmitters signal a fight or flight response, which halts the hunger signal and results in loss of appetite because the brain does not receive the hunger message.
Phentermine prescription is recommended for individuals with a body mass index of 28 or more, where they have an increased health risk due to their weight problems.
