Phentermine is a prescription diet pill that's used for weight loss, and is mainly used as an appetite suppressant. Chemically, Phentermine is similar to an amphetamine (although not identical), and is generally prescribed for individuals who are at increased health risk because of their weight.
Adipex is a stimulant similar to an amphetamine, and it is one of the leading brands of Phentermine Hydrochloride. It affects the central nervous system, and helps suppress appetite. Used together with a diet and exercise program, Adipex can help people with obesity problems.
Adipex is a prescription drug prescribed for short term use only (a few weeks), and best results are achieved when combined with sensible dieting and regular exercising. This drug is generally only for use by individuals with excessive weight problems that can lead to serious medical problems. However, Apidex-P should only be used as directed by your doctor, and its effectiveness decreases with prolonged use; therefore, it should only be used on a short term basis as directed by your doctor.
How Should Adipex-P Diet Pill Be Taken?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends short term use of Phentermine (generally interpreted as less than 12 weeks), while following a sound diet and exercise plan. One main reason given behind the short term recommended use is drug tolerance, where it is believed Phentermine loses its appetite suppressing effects after the body adjusts to the diet pill.
Because Adipex is a prescription drug, you should only take it exactly as it was prescribed for you by your doctor. You should not take it in large amounts, or take it for longer period of time than recommended by your physician, and always read the directions on the prescription label. The diet pill should be swallowed whole, and it should not be crushed, chewed, broken, or opened.
Long term use of Adipex Phentermine can cause various serious problems such as sleeping difficulties, irritability, skin problems, changes in personality, and lead to a dependence on the drug. Adipex should be taken before breakfast, or at least 10 to 14 hours before bedtime. Taking a dose of the diet pill in the evening can cause sleeping problems. You may also experience withdrawal symptoms when stopping the use of Adipex pills after using it for extended periods. Adipex should be stored at room temperature, and kept in a dry place.
Who Should Not Take Adipex-P Phentermine
Do not take Adipex with other diet medications such as fenfluramine (Phen-Fen) or dexfenfluramine - this can cause a rare fatal lung disorder called pulmonary hypertension. Fenfluramine was withdrawn from the market on September 15, 1997 because of concerns that it was associated with valvular heart disease.
We have an article discussion several studies performed on Phentermine drugs, and one of the studies researched the weight loss effects of Phen-Fen, which found the subjects had an average 1st year weight loss of 17%, and after conclusion of the 2 year study, 6 of 20 (30%) patients met criteria for valvular heart disease. This study was conducted prior to 1997, before Phen-Fen was pulled from the market. You can read about these Phentermine studies here in more detail.
You should not take Adipex if you used an MAO inhibitor such as phenelzine (Nardil), isocarboxazid (Marplan), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), rasagiline (Azilect), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days. There can be serious life threatening side effects if Adipex-P is taken before the MAO inhibitor is cleared from your system. Do not take Adipex with any other diet medications without your doctors advice. You should also not take Adipex if you are allergic to it or any other stimulants.
