Fit Econo Whey Protein Review
SciFit Econo Whey - Cost Effective?
I've used Sci Fit Nutrition's Econo Whey protein quite
a few times (inter-changing with my Optimum 100 whey for
variety) since I was introduced to it a while back, and
I have to say that I really like it, for cost and quality
considerations!
As the name suggests (econo whey protein), this is a very
competitively priced whey protein supplement, with all the
fixings like any other whey protein concentrate powder on
the market today. However, the major plus side of this is
that Econo Whey Protein is about 10% cheaper than any other
brands. Typically, a 5 pounder will cost around $50 to $65
(online prices), and quite a bit higher at retail stores.
A 5lb tub of econo whey can be purchased for $39 online.
For comparison purposes, we'll match up econo whey with
one of my favorites, Optimum's
100% Whey Protein. I'm sure many of you probably have
read my Protein Powder
comparison guide, which ranked 25 top protein supplements
by category and cost. Let's take a quick look at how well
Econo Whey matches up against 100% Whey.
100% Whey Protein
- Cost - $46.99
- CPS - $0.626
- CPGP - $0.0261
Econo Whey Protein
- Cost - $39.00
- CPS - $0.4875
- CPGP - $0.0271
CPS - cost per serving
CPGP - cost per gram of protein
While the Econo Whey Protein is the winner in the cost per serving category, ON's 100% Whey is the winner when it comes down to cost per gram of protein - as it contains a higher protein count per serving (24g vs 18g).
Sci Fit Econo Whey Protein - Quality?
Besides price considerations, quality is something that
everyone considers as well. Econo whey's protein content,
like most other whey concentrates on the market, consists
of mainly micro ultra filtered whey protein concentrates
and ion-exchange whey protein isolates. Obviously, the concentrates
will make up the larger portion than the isolates. If you're
not sure what these micro filtered and ion exchanged terms
mean, take a look at our protein
processing guide, and learn about the different methods
of making whey protein.
So quality wise, Econo Whey isn't a stand out in any way
compared to other brands, but its very comparable to other
brands. However, the main attraction of this product is
its price.
I think a big plus which many users will enjoy is the fact
that econo whey protein contains no Aspartame.

Econo Whey Protein - Taste?
The third major factor is taste - probably equally if not
more important to some than previous two factors. Econo
whey comes in quite a few flavors:Chocolate, vanilla, chocolate
mint, banana, lemon, raspberry, and a few other flavors
as well. So far, I've tried the chocolate, vanilla, lemonade,
and banana flavors.
The standard chocolate and vanilla are still probably my
favorites. The lemon and banana flavors were very nice tasting
as well. The lemon actually tasted "lemony", and
the banana actually tasted like bananas. The econo whey
shakes are quite light tasting, and I find it really enjoyable.
Mixing is never a problem at all. Every flavor I've tried
mixes easily in both milk or water with minimal shaking,
and best of all, there's no clumping at all. Follow the
